Education

Ensuring a strong and culturally relevant education for Native students has been a longstanding priority for Minnesota’s Tribal Nations. The Tribal Nations Education Committee (TNEC) has consistently advocated for policies that uphold Tribal sovereignty, address educational disparities, and promote Indigenous knowledge in Minnesota’s schools. Over the years, TNEC has submitted position papers to the State Legislature, outlining key priorities and necessary reforms in Indian education. These documents, dating back to 2016, along with recommended revisions to the Indian Education Act, reflect the collective voice of Minnesota Tribes in shaping policies that impact Native students, families, and communities. Explore the resources below to understand the ongoing efforts to improve Indian education in Minnesota.
